Campaign Story
The proposed project is located at between two urban areas (jehalary and khaay) areas of azad kashmir. It would primarily serve a community which resides daily basis and secondly will be for school children who have to cross Maal River to access school. The school, which is a government school, is located in jehalary. Communities residing in the urban poor setting face a high level of economic and social risk due to poor or non-existent infrastructure like roads, clean water, health facilities etc .the struggle for survival by such communities is adversely affected by these conditions. Community of these areas is not unique or exceptional. Those who suffer most in this community are the young school going children w ho have to cross this river every school day? While this crossing is not a big issue during the dry season when t he river is very small and requires no great effort to cross, when the rains come. No one including adults can cross this river. The children have to take a long route of about 12 km to reach school. This is a return journey of about 24 km every day. If one considers that these are
children who hardly get enough food; one would understand the torture these children go through. It is certainly not even possible for these children to concentrate in school. As a result, they cannot meet the grade during national examinations and this condemns them to a life of wretchedness.
