My Mission:

At C.A.R.E., myself along with other volunteers will be involved in the care, rehabilitation, and housing of orphaned, injured, neglected, abused, and abandoned animals (primarily baboons). Despite being listed as a CITES Appendix II "threatened" species, baboons are often considered "problem animals" and are offered no protection under the law in South Africa. Baboons are often shot and poisoned by farmers, illegally captured for sale as pets, utilized by traditional doctors for "medicinal" purposes, and vulnerable to such hazards as power lines, pylons, veld fires, habitat destruction and road accidents.

About C.A.R.E.:

The C.A.R.E baboon sanctuary is a non-profit organization located in Phalaborwa, South Africa and has been a pioneer in primate care since 1989. Its rehabilitation program is well renowned within scientific and animal behavioral communities. The center's focus is around animal welfare, conservation, rehabilitation, reintroduction, education, and scientific research. C.A.R.E's main intake is young baboons, generally orphaned after their mothers have been injured or killed. The Sanctuary also offers refuge to baboons released or confiscated from laboratories - allowing them to retire in peace and comfort. These animals are often traumatized, having spent many years incarcerated and being subjected to numerous experiments.

How you can help:

Your contribution will help make it possible to work alongside C.A.R.E's amazing team of animal caretakers, conservationists, vets, and other dedicated volunteers and will be aiding in the effort to preserve the indigenous wildlife of South Africa. Although the baboon isn't a glamorous species like the rhino or cheetah, the C.A.R.E team works hard to ensure its long term survival before it joins the ranks of chimpanzee and mountain gorilla as endangered species. Along with raising funds for this project, my hope is to spread the word on the importance of wildlife conservation and educate people on conservation efforts around the globe.

Thank you for your support and interest in this cause!

Sincerely,

Kelin
