Buy Mary some Peace of Mind

Mary* lives in an informal settlement in Cape Town, South Africa. At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, she was told she had a month to move out of her home and find a new place to live. Fortunately, she was able to do so, but it ended up being in an area in the settlement that was less safe and not familiar to her. To make this move, Mary had to borrow money from friends and family as she already barely made ends meet before the move.

A few weeks ago, Mary's new home was broken into. Her and her two children were tied up and tortured and her belongings were stolen or broken. Understandably, Mary has been unable to return to this house as she and her children are struggling to deal with the trauma of what they went through and has been staying with family. Due to this and the fact that the area is also unsafe, Mary would like to move to a new home. However, she has no money to do so and is already in debt from the first move, just a month ago.

I (Candice) am heartbroken by what she has had to go through. Mary is an incredibly strong, compassionate and independent single mother. She has sacrificed everything to keep her family fed, warm and safe. She is such a hard worker and truly doesn't deserve to go through any of this (no one does!). Therefore, I would like to do anything I possibly can to help her get out of the house and back on her feet.
