Our project is to renovate a house to create a cat shelter, here's our story :
Bukit Lawang is a small village situated near the Leuser National Park.
There was much devastation in 2003 when intense flooding destroyed most of the village accounting for more than 200 deaths.
Although the government accorded some money for the reconstruction of houses and infrastructure many houses are now in urgent need of repair.
One lady called Rita Sihotang and her friends and family wish to create an educational centre covering a number of areas... starting specifically with animal welfare for which there is currently no provision.
Until now we have no veterinary care, no animal clinic and no facilities for taking care of vulnerable, abandoned, injured or sick animals. We would like this to change as soon as possible by renovating one of the houses currently in need of repair and transforming it into a cat Sanctuary where our furry friends can have access to clean food and water, clinical treatment and most importantly human interaction and care.
We know that there are already many animal and particularly cat lovers among both visitors and members of the local community.
So what needs to happen next?
Money, resources, experience, management within a framework of ongoing transparency and accountability.
We estimate the total overall cost for the total rebuild to be in the region of 60 to 80 million rupiah equivalent to 5 000 Euro, and will need more to supply the shelter afterwards.
The sooner we generate money the sooner we can start. So we are asking you to contribute as much as you can to this innovative enterprise so that we can reduce animal suffering and eventually develop a program of care, vaccination and sterilization.
We welcome your thoughts and feedback and your contribution whether this a donation... helping develop outreach activities and any thing else.
