VBL RESPITE HOUSE AND ACTIVITY CENTER is a 501 (c)3 non profit organization who ultimate goal is to provide housing and services to adults with autism for families who lives have been altered or changed foreve by this debiltating disorder.  I am a father who founded this non profit organization because I have a personal relationship with autism so I know the stress of raising a child who is now an adult with autism and how this disorder impacts the entire family.  Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that typically lasts throughout a person's lifetime.  It is part of a group of disorders known as autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Today, an estimated 1 out of 54 boys and 1 in 252 girls are diagnosed with autism in the United States making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined.  It occurs in all racial, ethnic, and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls.  Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others.  It is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe. We seek your support and mutual understanding of people who suffered from autism spectrum disorder and would like to create a place for them in the community.  Thank you in advance for your help this year by giving a tax-deductible donation to VBL Respite House and Activity Center to support our cause. Sincerely,   Vincent Patton/Founder
