Building a Sanctuary for Bulgarian Street Animals

Who we are: The Guardians is a non-profit animal welfare organization that rescues homeless street animals in Bulgaria, by taking them off the streets, providing them with adequate veterinary care, placing them into safe foster care and finding them loving forever homes. To date we have successfully saved and found forever homes for over 20 dogs and cats and the number is growing as we speak.

The Situation: Bulgaria one of the poorest countries in the EU still has thousands of homeless animals and countless cases of animal cruelty and abuse. These animals have no shelter, food or adequate source of fresh water. Many live a very short life and usually end up dying from starvation, disease or by being run over by a car. All shelters are overcrowded, the ones run by the government are a sight of sheer horror, where the dogs are severely neglected, do not receive medical attention and are hardly being fed.

Why We Need Your Help: The Guardians is operating in Bulgaria since March 2014, we rescue as many animals as we can afford to take care of, and one life at a time strive to improve the situation. Currently all the animals we take in are being fostered or go to pet hotels which are expensive and paying for them reduces our ability to save more lives. Having our own build for purpose sanctuary will allow us to save more lives and help impact the situation on the streets, it will also allow us to control and provide adequate care for the animals as well as give us the ability to socialize them and care for them properly.
