Last month I was invited to discuss research with the teachers of Guinihon Elementary School in Mayoyao town of Ifugao Province, The Philippines. After an hour of hiking from the main road, I arrived at the place and welcomed by a magnificent view of the Ifugao mountains surrounding the humble school of 76 pupils. Sitting on the edge of a mountain, the school is frequently visited by tropical rains. In my conversation with the teachers, I learned that they usually have problems when it rains: outdoor activities are disrupted, school programs are suspended, or children are stuck in their classrooms. This is because the school has no covered gymnasium.
I promised the teachers that I will do my best to help them with that. So now, on my birthday, please help me build a COVERED GYMNASIUM for Guinihon Elementary School at the community. The school management promises to shoulder the labor and services needed. All we need to provide them are the materials to be used in building their shade.
Please help me help them. Let us make a better learning environment for our children in the rural areas of the Philippines because I believe that they also deserve quality facilities that can provide them with great opportunities for learning. JUST PROVIDE US THE MATERIALS AND THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY WILL BUILD THE ROOF. :)
The next time I hike to the school again, I hope to be welcomed by a structure that promises a relaxing shade.
