Imagine if your plastic waste could be re-used to bring hot water to a family in need, while in turn raising awareness of the benefits of renewable energy systems and promoting social inclusion!
The Buenos Aires based organisation Sumando Energías has developed just that with a simple three step method -
1. Collection of household or industrial plastic and cardboard waste.
2. Construction workshops organised in the most vulnerable neighbourhoods of Argentina with the participation of volunteers, students and the community.
3. Installation of solar powered water heating systems, bringing hot water to the family, life changing in the colder months of the year.
This is a great example of how the energy transition can be applied at a local level but potentially to large scale effect, while also addressing the issue of waste treatment.
Inspired by the multifaceted impact of this NGO's work, I will be giving a shot at running the Buenos Aires Marathon, in order to raise money for those families in need of help throughout Latin America.
A £10 donation on your behalf has the power to change a life! I would be forever grateful if you could support this cause with a donation of your choice. The funds will contribute to the collection of materials and the organisation of workshops.
As for the challenge itself, I am not a long term runner, but have been training day in day out for the past four months to get up to standard. Hopefully my time and sacrifices will pay off and allow me to break the 4 hour barrier!
