BU Engineering Senior Design Project

Hello from Pratt Industries!

Engineering students across the country partake in a final year project that is meant to be the 'capstone' of their time spent at school. Here at BU, this experience can be seen as a rite of passage to not only graduation, but to entering the world equipped with a unique skillset and perspective. This is why we need one final push of support to help us achieve our goals in order to keep excelling. 

For our senior design project, we are working in collaboration with the aerospace corporation Boeing to design, build, and operate a fully functional unmanned underwater vehicle. Essentially, we're going to be creating a wirelessly controlled mini-submarine that can move in the forward direction as well as up and down underwater. Some of the key subsystems of our design include navigation/communication, propulsion, and depth control. Our goal by the end of the semester is to have a operating prototype that can be wirelessly controlled with a computer or tablet.

As a group, we chose this project especially because of its ambitious deliverables, challenging design problems, and interdisciplinary concepts. If you're reading this, then you know that the members of this group are equally ambitious and have both the initiative and resolve to accomplish these goals. However, as the project has progressed, it has become clear that additional resources will be needed in order to build key components of the design. Having only been given a small portion of our expected budget from the university, we come to you for aid fulfilling the rest. 

Originally, we planned to only reach out to family members and relatives for help, but decided to open it up for our friends and colleagues. In fact, this second initiative became even more important to us than we expected. We all genuinly felt that we possessed an expansive and diverse network of friends and classmates who would jump at the chance of lending a little bit of help. This is why we're leaving it entirely up to you to decide how much you'd like to donate since any contribution of any size would be a significant boost to our progress. I think we speak for everyone when saying that supporting this project would leave a lasting impression for everyone involved. 

In closing, we'd like to thank you all for coming to check out our fundraiser and for reading this whole thing (sorry it was kind of long). For those of you who decided to help, we honestly can't thank you enough for the donation. This project means a lot to us which is why we're reaching out to those who have equal importance in all of our lives. Thank you.
