Meet Bruno Mars.  He is the sweetest kitty!  Currently he is being fostered by the family that rescued him from the depthts of the polar winter that gripped south Louisiana after Christmas.  He was cold and hungry and hiding in the tall grasses that line our highway.

His story begins....

It was the middle of the day on the last day of Christmas break.  Our two dogs needed a walk and honestly so did my son and I.  As we were on our walk about a mile away from home, we heard the loud cries of a kitten.  We looked around and unfortunately did not find where the cries were right away.  We continued to walk.  As we turned to go back we could still hear the cries.  It was torture to hear an animal crying.  He was not near any houses, they were at least a half mile in either direction.

My mind was racing through the options I thought I would have.  Do I continue to find it?  What do I do when/if we find it?  We cannot keep it!  Our inn is full!  He would surely freeze out here over the next couple of nights.  What would Linne say?  I can't just let him stay out here, what if he's injured?  I could get him neutered and he could be an outside kitty...keep the mice from coming in.  I could find him a home, because as I have witnessed from all the rescue groups I follow on Facebook and blogs, that's the easy part right.  (sarcasm of course!)  What do I do?

I follow my heart of course!

We finally spotted a hole formed in the tall grass that lined the road.  He was huddled down as far in as he could go.   He allowed my son to pluck him out and purred instantly.  He continued to purr all the way home where at least he wouldn't freeze over the next couple of nights.

Over the next week of observation, to be sure he wasn't sick,  we thought we may have to do something as he had developed a lump of sorts below his belly.  He continued to live in our utility room for a week and a half, purring, playing with toys and the occasional dog tail before dog walking occured, and trying to nudge his way into our hearts.  We finally decided we had to take him to the vet and get the news, good or bad, we had to know in order to decide what his options were.

The news is good!  He even got a name on the day he was to visit the vet.  Bruno Mars.  He is just so sweet, and my wife has a crush on Bruno Mars.  (should I worry?)  He had a nice visit with the lovely ladies and Doc. Artall at Acadiana Animal Clinic.  He has a clean bill of health!  Even his little lump now that had to be searched for came back without any signs of illness.  He is feline leukemia and FIV negative and looks great.  That was one breath of fresh air.  Then of course that breath taken away the moment we have the bill in hand.

So now I am here asking friends and friends of friends and strangers to assist.  His bill is currently at $172 without his neutering.  From a family that only rescues animals to give them a better life, we are hoping that you can help.  Bruno is looking for his forever family, but until he gets one, he is warm, cuddled, fed and very happy.  Please consider donating to his vet bills.  He will always have a home as I will never turn him away, but the cost of rescue is not free for the rescuer.  I did have a choice.  I chose to give Bruno Mars a chance at having a loving family.  Will you choose to help?
