Bronnie’s Cause

We are in desperate need of some help. Let me tell you who and why.

Bronnie de Beer is one of the oldest survivors of Cystic Fibrosis. A children’s disease that affects the lungs, pancreas and digestive system. The life expectancy was 14 years for Cystic kids. She is a miracle kid who is 49 years old! She was very sick all her life. She spent most of her time in and out of hospital. Unfortunately she was misdiagnosed and was treated with mega doses of cortisone, which led to the weakening of her bones. Ten years ago she had a seizure from a very high temperature, and broke her back. She has been bedridden ever since. She gets a disability pension of R 1250-00 per month, and... That’s all! Bronnie was a teacher and loved her job. She was dedicated and named the best teacher in her school for many years.

Okay- so you get the drift of the situation.

Now let me tell you about the person. You cannot keep a good woman down. When she is not too ill and despite her disabilities A- vascular necrosis in both shoulders and hips (in simple English- both shoulders and both hips are broken and can’t heal... lots of pain) despite her continual lung infections, broken foot, elbow & wrist, Bronnie designs, decorates and prints the most beautiful greeting cards. She is able to generate a couple of hundred rand extra a month, but it is not near enough to pay for her medication and all her necessary things that is need for a bedridden person. 

She is in desperate need of a specialised bed. Her medication costs R 15 000-00 per month. She is also in desperate need of dental care. Because of her severe Osteoporosis and certain medications, her teeth have deteriorated very badly. She also needs bedding and pillows and so many other things that are so vital to keep a bedridden person comfortable.

Bronnie is an inspiration to us all. She is such a positive, kind and loving person, who never complains about anything.
