At an early age of 4, Ma. Ruby Ruth Olaes already came to wear prescribed eyeglasses. Turning out to be a chronic illness, her poor eyesight was identified as High Myopia - an inborn deficiency that shall see her wearing eyeglasses for the rest of her life. Thus, you will fail to recall seeing Ruby without donning those glasses. We’ve all come to know her as the meek yet vibrant girl wearing eyeglasses, who’ll squeak in laughter with any playful remark. The timidity in her character suits her well in the persona of a young lady hiding her eyes on those circular pair of lenses. Innocence and intelligence veiled in her eyes; the world was limited for her in the power of clarity of those lenses. In this design and fashion, we’ve been used to seeing and knowing Ruby.

However, as deficiencies and illnesses advance despite our intentions, so did her eyesight which got worse. Despite her regular upgrade of lenses every year, this did not cope up to the blurriness in her eyesight. With her current lens grade of 1600/1400 which is already extremely high, Ruby still fails to see clearly. In her case of “increasing High Myopia”, she now suffers from extreme blurriness on both of her eyes. A level of blurriness her eyeglasses can no longer solve. Even with those thick lenses, she fails to see in both of her eyes.

An eye operation for “refractive lens exchange” is the only solution for Ruby’s eyesight according to doctor of Philippine General Hospital. Other methods such as refractive laser surgery as well as possible Implantable Collamer Phakic lens implantation were found unsuitable for her.

In the hopes of revitalizing the functionalities of her eyesight this operation shall provide a chance for the clarity in both of her eyes. And this one-time operation comes quoted in PGH at a cost of P60, 000.00. An amount Ruby, as a fresh graduate, and her parents, both church servants- cannot afford. Any income they have suffices only for their daily sustenance as a small family. 60K is an amount too heavy and impossible for them to raise on their own.

In this endeavor we have created this space to seek for all your help in raising 60, 000 for Ruby’s immediate operation. With all of our effort and help even in the most minute way, we can beat this challenge and raise this fund. We welcome any amount that can help us in bringing the hope in Ruby’s eyesight.

Let us all show Ruby that there are much more wonderful and good things left in the world to be seen, starting with our act and fruit of kindness in helping her in this difficult time.
