The funds are required to purchase a valuable painting by the late Papo de Asia and bring it home to be hung in the Great Hall of the National Museum of Manila, in memory of this amazingly brave and talented Filipino artist. This painting has had an amazing journey having been saved from the Marcos Imperial Palace during the 1986/87 Coup

It travelled to Perth in Western Australia in 1988 as part of a collection of 18 paintings. The collection sold at Auction to a businessman in Chicago for AUD$100,000. In 2016 a relative of the Chicago businessman brought the painting back to Perth. Her late uncle made her promise that she would get the painting back to the Philippines. She was in poor health and needed the money for medical expenses in America so a Perth Art Dealer bought the painting. He now wants to sell it and see it go back to the artists homeland. Sadly I never met Papo de Asis but I recently made contact with his daughter and son who live in the Philippines. Papo died in exile in USA in 2005 at the age of 55yo from a Stroke. He left behind his partner and two children. His daughter has never seen this painting which is purported to be splashed with the blood of his father.

Please help get this amazing political statement painting back to the artist's homeland. The title of the painting is "Imperialism and Our Local Allies".

The image is so powerful and brilliantly executed. I believe the message is as poignant today as the day it was painted in1981

We have a complete record or provenance for the painting since it arrived in Australia. It will include a pristine copy of the 1988 Auction Catalogue. A DVD of an interview conducted by the Australian Broadcasting Commission in Perth who interviewed the businessman who brought the paintings from the Philippines. The story ran on the evening news on May 30, 1988. There is a record of the Auction price paid by the Chicago Businessman and many local press articles. I have a letter from the businessman asking his niece to ensure the painting gets back to the Philippines.

The painting is held securely in Perth, and is fully insured. Grace Fine Art Removalist will be charged with airfreighting the painting back to the Philippines once a permanent home and memorial space can be confirmed.

Be proud to be part of the task of getting this painting back to it's rightful home.
