I have been very fortunate to be selected for the 2017 Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE). The main purpose of this project is to bring solar power to remote villages living in the Ladakh region of the Indian Himalayas.
In July this year 25 international volunteers will be trekking for 9 days and 150km through the Zanskar Valley of the Himalayas at altitudes of 14,000-17,000ft to reach Shade, a remote village with no access for electrical grid access. The team will install solar microgrids which will power the village with sustainable and environmental friendly electricity. We will also be replacing old lamps with efficient LED lightbulbs.
This is the fifth year for GHE to bring lights to the remote villages in the area. This year the local villagers are eagerly awaiting our arrival from hearing the success of the neighboring villages in the previous years. The team will also be expanding educational access and creating a "mountain homestays" program which generates business opportunities for villagers.

Coverage from last year's expedition:
The funding goal of $3,500 USD will only be used to pay for the expedition costs and towards helping the villages. Every dollar is greatly appreciated!
