Bring energy to remote communities in Peru

During our trip to Peru, Alpha's Ideation team visited families in the Amazon and the Andes that had no or very little access to energy. We interviewed 26 families and tested an experience prototype similar to a basic solar home system (solar panel, battery, lightbulbs and charging dock)

As a first prototype, we couldn’t guarantee that it would be sufficiently good and durable for people to use long term. However, we felt conflicted giving these families a glimpse of what it would be like to have access to this basic level of energy, to then take it away, leaving them in the dark.

Since then, this thought remained in the back our minds as we feel we have a bigger responsibility towards these communities, that were so welcoming and willing to contribute to the success of our project.

To address this, we are launching a fundraiser campaign with the aim of getting a number of these families, solar home systems from Powermundo (one of the awesome companies we visited in Peru), and distributing them through CONAPAC, an incredible NGO that continuously works with these communities to help them organise themselves and work towards improving their quality of life.

To give you a bit more detail, we have a small, a medium and a big goal:

• The small goal would be gathering enough funds to buy solar systems for 10 families in a community called Los Invencibles del Amazonas (aka LIDA). This was a community that moved us with their generosity in the face of extreme challenges and lack of resources.
• The medium goal would be to provide systems to approximately 45 families in the 5 communities we visited in the Amazon!
• And the big goal would be to gather enough funds to buy approximately 250 systems for more of the communities that work consistently with our partner NGO, CONAPAC.

Each system (see pic. attached) costs around €175 (700 Peruvian Sol) and between the Ideation team we’ve already committed to buying at least 5 of these systems! We hope that with your help and perhaps the help of our friends and family we can achieve one of our bigger goals!
