The criminal justice is full of pitfalls for Black men and biased practices have been document at every level of the system from policing , to prosecution to sentencing. While white men who kill Black people continue to walk free in this country Black women and men who have clearly demonstrated that they were defending themselves are unfairly and inhumanely prosecuted and imprisoned. Though Darryl was clear with the police that he saw a gun with a chrome handle (like the one on the "victims" instagram page) the police never looked for a gun and they completely dismissed Darryl's self defense claim. Many say it's because he's a Black man Police and Prosecutors have thrown the book at Darryl. Instead of taking seriously Darryl's claim of self defense prosecutors have refused to take into account that he was in his home, minding his business when this took place. Instead they have hit Darryl with a list of the most extreme charges possible. This is textbook prosecutorial misconduct and racial bias in the the criminal injustice system Darryl is facing life in prison, the most severe charges possible in a loss of life case and has been denied bail, and due process when police failed to thoroughly investigate the crime.

Darryl is a loving husband and doting father of 5 with a huge heart. He's a hard working business man and is committed to supporting his family. On March 29 when Darryl heard someone trying to gain entry into his house after midnight, while his wife and five small kids slept inside he took action to protect his family. Darryl had to run to the door and force it closed to prevent the person on the other side to get in, it was well after midnight and his young family was sleeping inside. Unfortunately the media and the police has decided that Darryl, a Black man, should be portrayed as a monster and hit with the most extreme application of the law for protecting his home.

Our hearts burn for Omarian and his family. Darryl is torn up about it and prays everyday for his family. In hindsight it's easy to believe that the young man was at the wrong door. Put yourself in Darryl's shoes. You live in a high crime neighborhood where you've already been a victim of burglary and someone is attempting to enter your home at 1am at night (NOT KNOCKING as the media reports) and you have to use the weight of your body slammed against the inside of the door to prevent what you imagine is an unauthorized entry/attempted burglary. Darryl was not out looking for trouble, he is not the type of guy to harass or bother people, in fact he's never bothered anybody in his life. Trouble came to him that day and if the man was truly at the wrong door this is a double tragedy. Ultimately Darryl was afraid for his safety and the safety of his family that night.

  • This is for an amazing cause. Darryl really is an fitting and awesome father and husband and what happened is a tragedy to both parties. But this man deserves to be with his small children and wife they need him, he never would've hurt anyone without just cause.
