My name is Dominque Trumbo, but the people of Botswana know me as Lesego Kedise. I'm a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV). I was dropped off in a village that was quite arduous, a place where the people of Botswana (Motswana) would wince when the name was spoken. My village was named Maokane. A village where the sand burns your feet and all the trees have thorns on them. A place where isolation weighs on you, where children run behind you taunting you calling out “Lekgoa!” (meaning white person or spit from the sea). A place that makes you reconsider your decision to serve, daily.
How did I make it through my service? Well, thanks for asking...I had an amazing dog, her name is Boo. Through the loneliness and despair, through the sleepless nights and tears she was always by my side. If you are an animal lover then you understand the significant bond one makes with animals, and the vast emptiness that comes from losing or leaving them.
I served my country, and have no regrets...except one. I had to leave Boo behind. The decision I made haunts me daily, and leaves me with a hole in my heart that cannot be fill with anything else...I need Boo.
Boo is currently located in Botswana (southern region of Africa), the process to get Boo is a long and expensive one so I need your help.
LETS BRING BOO HOME!
