My name is Sepideh Chagharvand, I am a physician-in-training in Madison, Wisconsin.
I was born and raised in Poldokhtar. I’m writing to ask for your help for the people in my hometown.
One month ago, a huge disaster happened in my hometown; they were hit by severe flooding for many weeks. Most of the town has been washed away, including my favorite places to visit, historical landmarks and places where I built my childhood memories.
5,000 houses are completely destroyed, and 12,000 houses are in non-livable conditions. About 17,000 families are considered homeless. Many of the people that I grew up with, including my parents and cousins, are spending their daily lives in makeshift tents.
This money will be allocated through an on-the-ground, not for profit, local organization. The money will preferentially go to those who were affected by the flooding the most, specifically to buy the bare necessities to furnish homes as they are being rebuilt. We hope to be able to provide funds for carpeting, furniture, refrigerators, pots, dishes and medication.
I would be grateful if any of you can be a part of this campaign; to prove that we, the people across the ocean, can stand together to make the world a better place for the current residents and the next generation despite our differences and distance.
If you’re interested in knowing more, please email me, and I will provide you more information.
