Baby Jarell’s Fighting to Live

UPDATE: Oct 1st, baby Jarell bid farewell to his family. While undergoing blood transfusion, the blood infection reached his brain causing his demise. His family will never forget his precious gift - he opened his eyes and for the first time, he drank milk like any other baby.

He will forever be remembered. An angel born on the nativity of Mama Mary. He goes home to heaven on the month of Mama Mary.

On Sep 8 8:38 am, Joanna Tilan gave birth to her second child, Jarell. What initially was a normal delivery turned out to be an emergency C section. In the middle of her labor, the doctor found out that the baby lost his heartbeat. Baby Jarell was too large for his gestational age and excessively moved, hence the higher risk of nuchal chord coil. Immediately, Joanna underwent C-section to save the baby's life.

As the baby came out, no cry was heard. He lost his oxygen for a few seconds. The doctor was able to revive him. However, he had serious episodes of seizure and had to be monitored in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Up to now, baby Jarell cannot breath normally. He is still intubated in NICU, which costs about Php 30,000 (USD 554) per day apart from the laboratory tests being performed. Recently, he was diagnosed of blood infection, which had to be treated with antibiotics.

Joanna is relying on prayers and generosity of relatives, friends, colleagues and other people for financial support. She firmly believes baby Jarell is a fighter.
