Brikama, Gambia. Omar (18) has 3 siblings. Dad died for several years and Mom just passed away a couple of weeks ago. They could not afford the malaria medicine. Now he has to take care of his younger siblings, raise them, feed them, shelter them. But Gambia is in Lockdown. Omar hopes to finish school but he also knows he has to provide as there is no-one to help. He wants to start a business, sell on the market. But most importantly, right now, he needs food and clothes and rent-money. 6500 Gambian Dalasi (Gmd) will buy a big bag of rice. Enough for a few weeks. Rent is 11000 Gmd per month. School 9700 Gmd per child/year + books. (Brikama Methodist school)
If you find it in your heart to help, Omar will pray for you, his brothers and sisters in Christ, as he calls you.
The lockdowns have affected people over the whole world differently, but the once who already had little have been hit hardest. Gambia is West-Africa's poorest country and inequality is big. As Christians in a Muslim country it is even harder.
