George is a severely autistic young man who has been institutionalised in Athens Greece for many years. In having severe autism George has not been able to understand or cope with his environment and has not been able to integrate the necessary social norms for effective functioning. Further George has not been able to communicate his needs and has become frustrated when unable to do so.

George grew up with his family however when he became a teenager he was increasingly unstable and demonstrated uncontrollable behaviours. George was often at risk to himself and to other. George's parents made the painstaking and traumatic decision to remove George from the family home to protect their other two children as well as George himself. George has not returned to the family home since.

George was placed in a facility which provided no therapeutic or rehabilitative programs. George remained in this institution for many years until he was placed in his current dwelling. Here George engaged in various activities, rehabilitative programs and was to commence a program designed for independent living. In time George's behaviours became more settled, medications reduced and generally presentation and future became more promising. All this was before the economic recession in Greece. After the crisis the most vulnerable-such as George- became the most neglected. Staff at George's facility lost their jobs and essential services ceased. The cumulative and resultant effect on George meant that he has become agitated (as he is bored) and restless. His medications have been increased again and that these medications have potentially serious and harmful side effects. George's speech and presentation have regressed.

The funds raised will help emply an appropriately qualified professional to provide the necessary structure, routine and rehabilitation for George (and other reisdents) to enrich learning, alertness, social skills as well as enhance communication. Quality of life would also be improved. Ten thousand dollars would employ someone for one year and twenty thousand dollars for two years and so on.

The monies raised will be overseen by George's mother specifically who in turn will be accountable to a lawyer appointed. (see facebook page: Brighter Future For George for full details)

Please help with this very valuable cause-specifically one of the most vulnerable in our society.
