This site was established to support a young South African man & keen sportsman, who in the prime of his life and with his future set out before him, faces the devastating effects of ALS Disease / Motor Neuron Disease(MND) which was diagnosed on 26 June 2017.

Brent Beier, born and raised in Cape Town, was a keen sportsman and has participated in a number of sports, proudly going on to represent his province and his country. The highlight being his representation in both the Junior and Senior South African National Baseball Teams which he represented on a number of occasions.Sadly he had to sacrifice his participation in sport due to re-occurring shin splints.

MND is a Progressive Neuro egenerative Disease which affects the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord.In South Africa it is better known as the disease that destroyed and claimed the life of South African national rugby player, Springbok Joost Van Der Westhuizen. Both avid sportsman and both having to pay the ultimate price at a young age.Although there is no cure or treatment for MND, scientists have made significant progress in learning more about the disease.

However, with this being said, it unfortunately does not offer much hope at present to assist the family and Brent with the devastating situation they are faced with.Sadly, Brent has gone from a man of stamina and strength to currently struggling and being unable to manage the daily human basics.Simple everyday abilities which we take for granted, like walking, talking, even eating have now become not only a strenuous exercise but are on most days impossible for Brent to manage.

Our aim is to make sure Brent has the best possible medical treatment, advice, medication and home care with all the necessary equipment which may be needed along the way to make the remainder of his life as comfortable as possible. We hope that with the assistance of family, friends, colleagues, fellow sportsman and the support of the general public we’d be able to offer Brent the best quality of life as is possible under the circumstances thus allowing him to get through his daily routine without any further difficulty & humiliation.

The family, out of desperation, have searched the globe to find a medication which could alleviate the condition and perhaps offer some form of relief/cure.A monthly supply of the imported drug Radicava does not come cheap, costing + R12 000 per month. This drug seems to be the light in an otherwise very dark tunnel and together with other extensive medical expenses being incurred almost daily, is putting strain on the already drained family.Being a degenerative disease there is surely not much hope of this every getting any easier and it is for this reason that we appeal to you, one and all, to support us in this venture.

Brent has, until now, been cared for by his family, his mother and his wife but his condition however has deteriorated to such point that qualified professionals caregivers would need to be employed to assist him every step of the way.

Therefore, our appeal for your support, to open your hearts and assist this family in providing for his every need and keeping him as comfortable as possible as he faces each day, however bleak it may be,knowing full well too that there is no turning back and that he’d not have the opportunity of seeing his 5 year old son grow up by his side.

Let’s take hands, let’s stand together and make a difference in the life of this family and give Brent the best we can, while we can.

This task would be merely impossible without your generosity so we sincerely thank you in advance from the bottom of our hearts for your kind contribution, whatever it may be.
