Breast Cancer Research & Patient Support

Hi friends! On January 27th I will be forming a team with 4 other young breast cancer patients in their 30s to participate in a short 3.5km walkathon (Pink Walk 2019) to raise funds for the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation. Although this is not a challenging marathon, all 5 of us have just completed surgery, chemo and radiotherapy, and all of us are moms to young children, so it will already be quite a challenge! When I was first diagnosed, HKBCF provided a care package for every breast cancer related surgery in the hospitals, and when i reached out for help fresh out of surgery, they immediately assigned me to a social worker who had recovered patients call me to share their experiences. After my surgery, I also regularly attended their young patients support group, an extremely valuable resource to have and an immense source of comfort for me when I felt hopeless and lost.

Did you know that breast cancer will come back as metastatic in approximately 30% of early stage cancer patients, and that the survival rate is only 22%? We are all terrified!
