Help Teboho break the record in Switzerland.Teboho Noosi has come along way as a shepherd in the mountains of Lesotho to becoming a professional runner. In August he aims to break the Sierre - Zinal course record.
Sierre - Zinal is one of the most competitive and historic trail races in Europe.
Lets help Teboho achieve his dream to stand on top of the alps as champion and new record holder.
Teboho Noosi has came a long way from his childhood as a shepherd to becoming a professional distance runner. From as young as nine years old he lived in a motebo a cattle outpost in Ramabanta. Teboho was the youngest of the three boys at the cattle outpost. All he wanted was to herd and accumulate as many animals as possible. As a boy he was given 6 sheep at the end of the year as payment.
In 2002 when Teboho was fifteen he decided to go back to school, that’s when he sold all his sheep to pay for his school fees. Unfortunately he didn’t have the normal family support. Three years in to his schooling his Mother passed away and two years later his Father also passed.
His younger siblings were scattered amongst various relatives and were having a hard time.
Teboho took it upon him self to drop out and take care of his siblings and try keep them in school. He started running with some friends training in army boots as he had no running shoes. They noticed his talent and suggested he take it seriously and go all the way. He ran a few races with them and was noticed by a coach who supported him further, introducing him to a professional group.
Since 2009 Teboho has been running full time, dedicating his life to the sport. He trains with a group of top marathon runners Including Olympian, Lebenya Nkoka. It has not been easy, he was close to giving up after no success in races. His friend and training partner told him to stick with it, reassuring him that his day will come.
In 2017 Teboho entered his first trail race, the Cape Town Peace Trail Run. He won and broke the course record. Since then, he has done a total of three trail races breaking all the course records in the process. He still competes in road marathon’s as this is how he makes a living from the prize money. However, being from the mountains of Lesotho Teboho naturally enjoys steep climbs and technical terrain.
Lesotho is the perfect training ground for trail racing it only makes sense for a Mosotho to be racing among the worlds best.
2018 was Teboho’s best year after winning the Cathedral Peak Challenge and then the Mokhotlong Summer High Altitude Marathon- a very fierce marathon above 2000m with more than 1000m in accents.
This year Teboho has been invited with an entry to race Sierre - Zinal in Switzerland, one of the world’s most famous mountain races.
Here he intends to break the course record which has stood for 16 years.
Breaking The Record
Sierre - Zinal is one the oldest, most prestigious and most competitive mountain races in Europe. It always brings a very competitive field of runners.
It is part of the Golden Trail World Series and the World Mountain Running World Cup.
The Sierre - Zinal record has stood for 16 years, ever since Jonathan Wyatt set his incredible time of 2:29:12 in 2003. Even Kílian Jornet who’s won the race 6 times has never gotten within seconds of this record.
Teboho knows this is no soft record but he truly believes he can break it.
In order to get to the race Teboho needs funding for all his travel expenses from Lesotho to Sierre, Switzerland.
He also needs funding for accommodation, food, visa fees and kit.
Teboho aims to spend a couple of days to acclimatise and study the course before the race in Sierre.
The race is on the 11th of August 2019.
Teboho has been confirmed on the start list of the race here: https://www.sierre-zinal.com/

Why we believe he can do it.
Teboho won two unique races last year that proves he has what it takes to break the record.
1: Cathederal peak challenge.
This was very steep and technical mountain race. It climbs steeper than the first half of Sierre-Zinal and Teboho won this race in 2h:19min. He reached the top in 1h:20min which included quite a lot of scrambling. This races prove that Teboho has the fast climbing ability needed to win Sierre-Zinal.
2: Mokhotlong Summer High Altitude Marathon, Lesotho_ 2018.
This is an annual road marathon in the highlands of Lesotho. The fierce route attracts Lesotho’s best marathon runners. The route sits above 2000m with a total elevation of of 1158m. Last year Teboho won the race in 2h:30min, this shows he has the pace and endurance to win Sierre-Zinal.

Having grown up in Lesotho I have a personal relationship with the country. As a filmmaker I have made and been involved in many sports orientated films. This has brought me closer to the many talented Basotho distance runners.I know their potential and their aspirations. I have a humble understanding of their livelihoods and struggles and am constantly inspired by their determination, hard work and talent.
It is unfair for talent and hard work to be swallowed by poverty, Teboho deserves a shot at the record. With your help I truly believe he can break it.
