#BraveSaab’s Journey to a New Liver

After battling with prolonged jaundiced, which was then thought to be and treated as breast milk jaundice, our precious Saab was just recently diagnosed with Biliary Atresia - a rare, life-threatening liver disease. It was confirmed through MRCP (Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography) that Saab's bile ducts system is underdeveloped, dilated, and almost indistinct causing bile to be trapped inside her liver. If left untreated, this disease would further damage and scar her liver leading to cirrhosis, and eventually liver failure.

We are very fortunate that Saab still doesn't exhibit the severe symptoms of Biliary Atresia like abdominal bloating and internal bleeding. However, we don't want to be complacent as these are bound to happen if preventive medications and proper treatments won't be done. As of date, the only treatment for Biliary Atresia is a liver transplant. Yes, her tiny yet dysfunctional liver would have to replaced by a graft liver from a living donor. We are planning to have the transplant done in India as it costs a lot cheaper and is backed up with high success rate. We are looking forward to having the transplant done the soonest time possible as this disease is a time bomb.

We need to prepare at least 2.5 million pesos for the transplant and the post-transplant procedures. Currently, we are undergoing series of tests and work up to prepare us for the transplant and these cause our savings to slowly deplete.

I, together with my entire family, am knocking onto your kindest hearts to help us finance Saab's liver transplant and post-transplant medications.
