My sister, Ibanz Cassandra Señadan who works as a Respiratory Therapist in Cebu City was diagnosed with Anti-NMDA Receptor Encephalitis or also know as the "Brain on Fire". An autoimmune disease where the body mistakenly attacks the healthy cells of the brain.
She has been admitted since July 26, 2020 and on the first 10 days, she was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder however, on the next few days, her symptoms weren't showing much of a psychological problems anymore as it would consist of fever and slight episodes of seizures. All her tests (lab, eeg, mri, scans, lumbar tap for meningitis) from July 26- August 13 were all clear and negative. It got us really puzzled as to what caused her constant seizures that led to her oxygen drop and intubation. She was then transferred to the ICU.
On August 15, her result for the Anti-NMDA test came out Positive. That's when the doctors informed us of the IV IG treatment she needed for 5 days. We were really hoping that she'd respond to it, unfortunately however, on the 4th day of the treatment, it was seen that aside from pneumonia (non-covid; tested thrice already) she also had sepsis. There were two of the most harmful bacteria in her body causing her fever and seizures to recur.
We are still in continuous medication for her infections and the doctors are in the works of having the 2nd line or option of treatment however, the daily medicine expenses we've been covering for 3 weeks lead us to be financially constraint already since the Hospital already closed her account with a running bill of more than Php 1.3 Million.
The fact that we never lost hope in this battle with her also makes us realize the need to provide more for her to at least, slowly recover from this illness.
With this, we are truly, humbly asking all of you for any help through prayers and/ or any amount that you can give to my sister. She has a lot ahead of her, she can still help more people and and she can be more than anything she could think of herself.
Thank you so much.
