Braces for a normal life

Hello my name is Gabi and I am 20 years old. I have wanted braces my whole life but I could never get them. I watched people wear them and feeling both shame abd jealousy. Maybe anger too. My mother, a single parent, never could put aside money to even make ends meet, let alone my braces. So my now, at 20, I would have thought I would be working and already have them on... But life had other plans with me, as I won a scholarship at my University. That means I have each semester paid, but that only if I remain amongst the first three, which I have managed so far. Meaning I can't work. Thoroughout my life I was so ashamed of my smile that I rarely made friends. All because of my teeth. Let's not talk about boyfriends. I was never able to smile at boys thinking they would laugh at me and my crooked smile. So please help me out.
