My name is James Hansford and I am a student at Heathfield community school in Taunton. I am participating in an expedition to Borneo in the summer of 2015, when I will be 16 This will be a four-week expedition and will include community development work, environmental projects and wildlife conservation. It will also include a challenging element which is a scuba diving course in the heart of Borneo itself. This is the PADI international course and if I pass this it means that I can dive anywhere in the world up to 18 meters with a buddy. The core objectives of this expedition are to undertake projects in order to: • Raise the educational standards of developing communities within a rural district of Borneo because most of the children in these schools haven’t passed a single exam in their lives so don’t you think they need some help from us. • Raise the living standards of developing communities, within a rural district of Borneo. This is to help make life better of the communities like building new schools, finding clean safe water to drink, build new home for the people to live in. • Assist with ongoing wildlife conservation programmes to preserve biodiversity and protect vulnerable habitats. We all know that the world’s natural rainforests are being destroyed so we need to do something about it, This part of the project includes replanting , and using the knowledge I have gained to pass onto local school children and adults , to give a better understanding in sustainable management of this precious resource This expedition is extremely important to me because I feel that I will acquire and develop many important life skills such as learning to work as a team, learning to cope with the unknown in life and just being able to work with a new range of people that I haven’t meet before. The main part I will be looking forward to is the chance to be away from the parents and learn to become more independent. The main challenge I currently have to face is the fundraising, which I want to do independently, and not rely on my parents; I already have regular gardening /car washing jobs, and have taken part in group fundraising like bag packing in supermarkets I would be extremely grateful if you would consider a contribution towards my fundraising, this can be done by logging onto (insert website), should I raise more than the £4000 required , part of which is a charitable contribution to the projects being undertaken in Borneo, any additional money will be given to the charity , if you require additional information please look at www.campsinternational.com , any contribution will be acknowledged in a number of ways , I intend having tee shirts printed with logos of my sponsors , all fundraising activities will have acknowledgment to the sponsors , luckily for me my Dad can print these for me , also banners , roll ups etc.
