My name is Derick Omari. I recently completed Ashesi University and will be graduating in June with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. I humbly request that you assist me cover for the cost of tuition to be enrolled in the University of Chicago Booth Summer Business Scholars Program (SBSP) in July. My desire is to become someone who bridges gaps and empowers less privileged and marginalized individuals. I know that participating in the Summer Business Scholars Program will prepare me for the next phase of my journey to replicate, scale up and sustain the work my team and I do at Tech Era.

As the founder of Tech Era, my team and I provide a more inclusive education for the disabled and underprivileged in Ghana through technology intervention programs to create an enabling society for them to partake fully in our world. I lead a team of 40 individuals who currently teach about 100 blind and visually impaired students to use computers and smartphones and develop programming and electronics skills of 100 deaf persons through robotics and electronics modules.

While my work has imparted over 300 individuals through several programs, it has become increasingly important to think about how to scale, replicate and sustain our impact to change the narrative of the less privileged and not abled persons, especially the blind who face difficulties and do not have access to inclusive education because of their situation to change their life trajectories.

Through my work, I have received several honors including being named as a 2018 Queens Young Leader to receive an award from Her Majesty the Queen of England. I was also named as one of the 2018 30 under 30 Future of Ghana pioneers. Awards I have received in my university (Ashesi University College) include: best business pitch during the university’s Career Fair; Leadership in Action award in 2017 and Community Engagement award in 2017.

At this time, in order to attend the 2018 Booth Summer program, allowing for all current resources to attend the program leaves me with $6300 (covers cost of the program). I have up till 15th of May to make a down payment of $1000 and pay the rest of the tuition ($5300) by 29th May, 2018.

With the curriculum and network of scholars at the Summer program, I know that spending part the SBSP will broaden my perspective and give me practical’s skills on how best to replicate, scale up and sustain the work we do across the borders of Ghana to other West African countries. I believe this program will leverage my career as someone who is interested in the intersection between business, education, and technology. Moreover, I believe SBSP will be fundamental to my development as a future leader in Ghana.

I will appreciate your contribution by committing my life to serve humanity. I will remain committed to ensuring that our work provides inclusive education for the blind and deaf and creates a world that works for all. I will pay any gift invested in me to be educated, 3 times to others within the next 15 years through my work and through supporting others financially. Your contributions will go a long way in impacting not just mine, but the lives of millions in the near future. Thank you in advance for your support.
