Hi. My name is Zahra. My campaign is aimed at finding donors willing to fundraise my start up by boosting a stay at home mum and her ambitions. Before I explain about my start up I would like to reach out to all those stay at home mums out there by connecting with them as no one can understand the situation in which we mums survive through day in day out while trying to eek out an income from our homes. We may have careers which are on hold or that have ceased because of the circumstances we find ourselves participant in. At no point do at home mums not have the desire to grow their ideas, passions and ambitions simply because they do not have a 9 to 5 job. We have ambitions too and would like to provide an income for our family without a doubt. It is unfortunate that many at times these cottage industries are the most neglected and frowned upon by those who do not truly appreciate the hard work a mother / wife and woman puts in daily to not just keep her family going but also to make something of herself too. As a mother and a woman I implore any of you out there to support each other, not just for my campaign but for any other similar or otherwise campaigns taken on by women trying to achieve their goals. Many at times women are their own worst enemy but we have an opportunity to change this by supporting our small businesses to grow into formidable ventures that can catapult each of us to become reference points of success for millions of such women. So as I reach out to every mother / woman out there, please know that my funding campaign is not only for my self interest in starting my business but at the same time it is aimed at highlighting the power of groups coming together to support sidelined and vulnerable groups such as women in the society and whose norm must change for success to be attained. This change starts with you; and I hope my campaign is just a stepping stone for many other women to come out and showcase their ideas, efforts and passions and hope that people out there will lend a helping hand to benefit one another in as much, or as little, as we can.
The business – I am very passionate about baking and in particular about chocolate making. All I have learnt so far has been through watching videos and taking online classes to improve my skills. I am now creating art inspired decadent chocolates in an assortment of flavours and healthy options. It is my aim to commercialize my operations by automating and expanding my business to be able to sell in mass production capacities. In Africa, and possible in many 3rd world countries chocolate is still a luxury that many never get to indulge in. I would like to change this narrative by offering affordable options for all classes of society to be able to afford a small slice of life’s little pleasures. The chocolate and confectionery business is dominated by renowned global brands without any local entrepreneurs able to compete. It is this perspective that I mainly aim to challenge by bringing to consumers a local 'Made in Kenya' brand that is not only affordable but also of similar if not better standards than renowned brands. With my skills, passion and ambition my fundraiser aims to raise enough capital to purchase automated machines, a packaging line and a distribution chain to push my product within the local market.
