Book4Change

It is important to commit resources and attention into education to ensure that every Ghanaian or African child living anywhere has access to basic teaching and learning materials to enhance studies. The Books for Change (BFC) project seeks to achieve a change in the reading habits of children and a successful completion of basic education for disadvantaged children in Northern Ghana.

Books for Change believes that the quality of basic education and successful completion can only be achieved when children are exposed to available reading materials at their levels, this will help improve the reading habit of children and go a long way to address the problem of high illiteracy in our society. Change is a collective action and not restricted to an individual, hence children,teachers,family,the organization and district are engaged to find possible solution towards the poor reading habits among children in northern Ghana.

BACKGROUND

Future for Africa is a non-profit organization that is into youth development. Engaging and empowering the youth and children in areas of education, skill development, health and water and sanitation through effective partnership and networking is our primary focus. Our vision is to create a society of equal opportunities for youth development and the protection of the rights of children. It is based on this vision that, we tailor programs and projects that will have positive impact on the youth.

Our activities includes: Involving and encouraging the youth to participate in innovative projects and develop their skills. Also working with both local, international interns and volunteers to help children access basic social amenities such as education and healthcare sectors we are passionate about. More so, we encourage community participation in project management and innovations. All these activities are environmentally friendly and youth focused.

At Future for Africa We very much have strong desire for results, sustainability and efficiency in all activities we undertake.

RATIONAL BEHIND THIS PROJECT

Education is one area we commit much attention and resources into, to ensure that every Ghanaian or African child living anywhere has access to basic teaching and learning materials to enhance studies. With this idea in mind we plan to embark on, an educational donation to a number of schools in the Upper East Region of Ghana. These schools were selected after a baseline survey on their educational needs.

This schools are:

• Yikene Pimary School 2
• Zaare Primary School 3
• Sokabisi Primary School 4
• Azemisu Primary School 5
• Kalebio / Tindonsobiko Primary School

We believe reaching out to them to donate these assorted books and teaching materials will help to improve, reading ability of the students in these school; collectively educational standards will be improved in the long run out of this donation.

This exercise is to be carried within two weeks and we look forwards to, donating not less than 1000 books to these schools.

MONITORING AND EVALUATION

This books will not be given in vain, we shall ensure that the beneficiary schools take good care of these books so that they are not stolen, and mishandled. A monitoring team is already being constituted to visit the schools every quarter to access the standards of the books and process of reading among the students. This will be done through reading competitions and other forms of quizzes and debates. This we believe will help us optimize the reasons that necessitated this idear of donating - which is to ensure that reading becomes a part and parcel of students.
