Campaign Story
Education is one area we commit much attention and resources into; this is to ensure that every Ghanaian or African child living anywhere has access to basic teaching and learning materials to enhance studies. The Books for Change (BFC) project seeks to achieve a change in the reading habits of children and a successful completion of basic education for disadvantaged children in Northern Ghana.
Books for change (BFC) is a project being implemented by future for Africa. The project aims to address the menace of poor reading habits of children in the Northern part of Ghana. With support from groups like I BELIEVE IN READING and individuals 1000 books were gathered comprising of 500 exercise books and 500 reading books. The project which was implemented in September 2017 donated reading and exercise books to Yikene primary and Sumbrungu Primary and Junior high school all in the Upper East region. Reading clubs have been formed in these schools which allows voluntary participation of children who come together to read books of their choices during their leisure time (during and after school sessions), teachers have been assigned to supervise these period and assist them in reading.
Books for Change believes that the quality of basic education and successful completion can only be achieved when children are exposed to available reading materials at their levels, this will help improve the reading habit of children and go a long way to address the problem of high illiteracy in our society. Change is a collective action and not restricted to an individual, hence children, teachers, family, the organization and district are engaged to find possible solution towards the poor reading habits among children in Northern Ghana.
OBJECTIVES
Establish small libraries within target communities or schools by
Create reading clubs in partner schools which will be supervised by the head of the school and at least two teachers.
To deploy Volunteers to the various schools to assist children in reading.
Stakeholders will have the capacity to address issues in relation to the underlying causes of poor reading habits among children and facilitate the implementation of the project to enhance quality basic education.
CHALLENGES
Inadequate space to engage the children effectively at school.
Inadequate space to keep available reading materials.
Most of the reading books are worn out and children have difficulty trying to put torn pages together whiles concentrating.
Frequent absenteeism of students.

Beautiful initiative. I hope that the educational system of this school will empower children, discover their potential by making them understand that the image they have of themselves is what will make them create their future reality. Kisses
