Book Thirsty Students Need An Updated Library

At our school we have a designated 22 minutes every day for 4 days per week.  During that time students are given a place to read, time to read, and hopefully resources to choose from.  While I have a decent classroom library the age and quality of books lean more toward the vintage than cutting edge and high interest.

We all know that students who read more perform better on high stakes standardized tests, get higher grades and have a vast vocabulary that prepares them for life beyond high school.  Giving the students a place to read, time to read, and books to read hopefully promotes life long readers.  I teach a lot of students who are reluctant readers and providing books of varing interests and reading levels is a challenge financially.

As an adult I know the value of a good book, but for our students they do not have the resources to purchase a book for lesiure, especially when parents' income is designated to rent and groceries with little left over for the luxury of books.

Your funding would be greatly appreciated in the updating of my classroom library by enabling me to purchase 100+ young adult/teen books that the students want and desire to read.
