Campaign Story
Despite E-Books being readily available, people still do not read any longer than they used to decades ago when only printed books were available. Readers know that there is a different mood when reading an E-Book and a printed book. Reading a printed book feels more pleasurable and a good way to relax after a busy day at work.
Printed books makes reading a community-building act. Printed books encourage sharing of books and in turn bringing together people with common minds. In order to provide easy access to printed books for all, Silicon Kenya brings together a community of book readers and makes it easier for them to access books that they need.
Our model allows those who own books to exchange the books with interested readers at a marginal fee. Another model allows for membership subscription for readers to enable them borrow books at any given time from bookstores. Therefore, an individual can read 100 books in a year without having to purchase a single one.
We intend to raise money to purchase 6 book dispensing machines and more books to be distributed across the country. The program will be made available to schools across the country who have difficulties in acquiring books for students.
