Blues In Schools

Blues in Schools is a unique educational project that aims to give children of all ages the opportunity to learn lifelong skills. From behavioral, social and emotional difficulties to autism and down's syndrome, many of the children we work with have had a very tough start in life.

The Blues in Schools programme is designed to engage these children with the learning process whilst enabling them to gain new life skills.

I have been working with Blues In Schools for over three years and the project is very close to my heart.

We teach the same class throughout the school year and many of the children who have difficulties and behavioural problems in other areas seem to respond really well to the class, which can be very therapeutic for them.

We try to engage the children in the learning process through many different techniques, and use creative ways to stimulate their five senses (smell, touch, sight, taste, sound).  The children learn how to create a full meal, from start to finish and through this they gain an understanding about food and where it has come from.

Our aim is to teach the children skills that will stay with them for life which they can pass on to their friends and family.

Also what is really rewarding, is that every year we have at least a couple of children who decide they want to go to cooking college get a full qualification.

With the money I hope to raise, we are going to buy new kitchen equipment for the school.
