Blood Life

Our Project 'Blood Life' aims to solve the problem of arranging safe blood and blood products in the shortest possible time for needful patients. This shall be achieved using Information Technology in its most accessible forms i.e. through Internet and Mobile Phones.

There is little need to explain the importance of immediate supply of blood in cardiovascular surgery, transplant surgery, massive trauma, therapy for solid and hematological malignancies trauma patient etc. In low- and middle-income countries it is used more often for management of pregnancy-related complications, childhood malaria complicated by severe anemia, and trauma-related injuries.

There are many examples where immediate availability of blood has saved lives and delay has caused death.

The following information will elucidate the importance of this project which will help reduce deaths cause due to non-availability of blood for the patient.

  1. 108 million unit of donated blood is collected globally every year. 50% of these blood donations are collected in high-income countries. These high-income countries are home to less than 20% of the world's population whereas 80% people love in low-income countries. Thus, many developing countries face severe shortage of availability of blood for donation.
  2. In developing countries, accurate and reliable supply of safe blood can only be fulfilled by involving regular, voluntary, unpaid blood donors. About 60 countries in the world fulfill 100% of their blood requirement through such voluntary blood donors. While, in 72 countries, less than 50% of blood supplies come from voluntary unpaid donors, with much of their blood supply still dependent on family/replacement and paid blood donors. Thus, there is a need to bring forward more and more number of voluntary blood donors in such countries.

What ‘BloodLife’ Plans to do?

We plan to collect the basic information of such voluntary blood donors such as name, contact details, blood group, geographical location etc through our portal, application, hospitals and blood donation organizations. The information will be fed into our database.

Whenever any requirement comes up, it will be matched with the nearest blood donors to whom the requirement will be forwarded through SMS, e-Mail and other social media channels. This way the requirement can be fulfilled in the shortest possible time.

In addition, BloodLife will organize education and awareness drives, blood donation camps and events to encourage voluntary blood donations.

What Resources are required?

  1. Website

To start BloodLife we will need to develop a dynamic website with features such as registration forms, maps, forums, education pages etc. We will have to deploy skilled manpower for operating the website, take services from companies providing server, domain names, web-design and development services, maintenance and updation on timely basis etc.

  1. Mobile Application

A mobile application on popular OS perusal will offer more accessibility to the users. Resources similar to website are applicable here for development, operation, maintenance and updation of the application etc.

  1. Educational and Awareness Program

Additionally, educational and awareness programs will involve logistics, content creation, logistics etc. This will require skilled and unskilled manpower, logistics, space on rent, publicity and doctors availability etc.
