Blondie

Meeting Blondie for the First Time:

Blondie was brought to the Humane Society of West Texas when she was barely pregnant. (Although she was so small, it looked like she was about to give birth almost from the time she came to us... by the time she had her babies she was absolutely huge!) From the moment she came to us, she was an incredibly sweet and very affectionate kitty. After time, even though she was so big she could barely move, she always appreciated a good snuggle.

Finally, Blondie has her babies:

Week after week, we waited. Every day thinking this is the day (this went on for several weeks). Finally, on the evening of January 17th, Blondie went into labor. Throughout the night and early into the next morning, Blondie gave birth to kitten and beautiful kitten, until at last after the seventh kitten, her labor ended.

Throughout the next day, Blondie did the best she could to take care of her kittens even though she was incredibly weak. "Who wouldn't be weak?", we thought. After all, Blondie was a very young, incredibly tiny kitty (barely more than a kitten herself) and she just had seven kittens! However, after a day, she became even weaker and more lethargic. In addition, she still hadn't stopped bleeding from the pregnancy.

Blondie's trip to the vet:

So, to be on the safe side, we rushed Blondie to the vet to get checked out. After an examination and some tests, it was discovered that one of Blondie's babies had died in utero and was stuck in the womb. She was immediately taken into surgery and given a c-section to remove the deceased kitten. Afterwards (since she was under anesthetic anyway), she was spayed.

Blondie back on track:

Within a couple of days, Blondie was back with her kittens and (with the help of her foster, Beverley) raising them to be big and strong for their future adopters! It has been two months, some of her kittens have already been spayed/neutered and will be going up for adoption in the next couple of weeks. Blondie (and her seven kittens) are healthy and happy. Blondie is as affectionate as ever, although now she is a bit more mobile and is therefore able to jump into your lap and demand love whenever she wants it!

Blondie's fundraiser:

Now that Blondie and her kittens are healthy and happy, we are trying to raise money to cover her medical costs right after givig birth. Between her surgery (c-section), meds, vet stay, and IV fluids the entire procedure cost over $600. As a nonprofit, the Humane Society of West Texas makes very little money from our adoptions of cats and kittens (our adoption fees often fail to cover all of the costs to prepare our animals for those adoptions, e.g. spay/neuter, tests, shots, microchip). Likewise, most of our donations go towards covering the costs associated with adopting out the animals in our care. As such, when one of our animals has an emergency, life-saving surgery like Blondie did, we rely on the generosity of friends, supporters, and strangers with big hearts to help us pay for the procedures.

We are hoping to raise $650 for Blondie's emergency c-section and associated medical costs. Any funds we receive beyond his goal will go directly into our Emergency Rescue Fund which is used to pay for emergency medical costs for animals that we rescue (e.g. emergency surgeries, hospitalizations, etc.)!

Thanks in advance for your donation!!!

P.S. - Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about what we do!

  • Thanks! She is doing very well now. Her biggest troubles are trying to figure out how to get some lovin' from her fosters without getting mobbed by her kittens!
