Read moreThis article explains why you can feel comfortable and guilt-free when asking others for help when you’re fundraising online!
When you first consider the idea of online fundraising, you might find that you are feeling embarrassed or guilty with the concept of asking others for financial help. However, personal fundraising campaigns are some of the most common on our site!
The majority of humans are inherently helpful by nature; when people see others struggling, it’s natural to want to help. Think about it: if you saw someone struggling, especially a loved one or someone you knew, wouldn’t you want to do all that you could to help them?
This desire to be there for those that we care about, and even in rare circumstances for those we don’t know, is something truly beautiful. Just as you would be there for others, you can allow them to be there for you.
Helping others is proven to actually make you feel good. So when others are helping you, they are benefitting too!
You might think that sounds all very well and good in theory, but there is science that proves this is true. This study found that “participants who were randomly assigned to spend money on others experienced greater happiness than those assigned to spend money on themselves”.
It’s not the only study that shows this either; there is lots of research and scientific proof that helping others makes people happy, including this one and this one.
Believe it or not, helping others not only makes people happy, it also promotes health, reduces stress and helps people live longer. This study concluded that “a strong correlation exists between the well-being, happiness, health, and longevity of people who are emotionally and behaviorally compassionate”.
If you’re in a difficult situation, it can be tough to reach out for help, whether financially or otherwise, because you may feel alone or like you ‘should’ be able to do things on your own. The truth is, everybody needs help sometimes!
We all face hard times, and we’re all there for someone at some point in our lives. Whether it’s advice from a friend, needing to stay with family for a while or asking for financial assistance, we’ve all been in a situation where we needed to ask for help. You aren’t alone!
Just because it’s your time to ask for help now, doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to then help someone else later on in your life.
There are so many more reasons that you should feel comfortable asking for help:
Now that we’ve covered why you don’t need to feel guilty, let’s take a look at ways that you can feel more comfortable reaching out for help.
