Read moreAs any fundraiser will tell you, getting your campaign noticed, talked about and shared is a vital step towards getting those all important donations. With GoGetFunding, when you create your own personal fundraising page we offer the ability to embed a personalized fundraising thermometer widget on your website, blog or Facebook page.
This may sound incredibly technical to those who may not be so familiar with the tools and features of social media pages and websites, but it is actually very straightforward once you know how. In fact in many cases it is as simple as copy and paste.
So, are widgets something to be feared?
Absolutely not. Widgets provide a truly interactive and dynamic feature that updates every time you receive a donation. This can create a great buzz on social media pages and has a number of other benefits particularly if you are a blogger or website owner.
If you are looking for ways to increase traffic to your website, installing your campaign widget onto your website means instead of inviting potential donors to visit your campaign page, you can direct them to your actual website where they can donate directly! Not only that, if they are visiting your website, they are more inclined to discover more about you and what your site is about, increasing your website traffic while doing so!
What would the widget look like on my page?
We believe in choice – that’s why we have one of the most flexible campaign platforms out there. The same applies to widgets. We offer five different types – from the simple ‘donate’ button through to the donor appreciation widget which will automatically post every time someone donates – particularly great for social media pages!
Here are three examples you can choose from:
It’s easy to get your own fundraising widget. Simply create your fundraiser on our site and then click the ‘Embed’ link located in the sharing panel directly beneath the main image on your campaign page, when your page is live. Once you’ve grabbed that code, you can paste it into your desired location.
If you want to see just how easy it is to retrieve an embed code, view any campaign on our website, click the embed button and select one of the five options along the top of the popup.
The Donor Appreciation Button
We LOVE this feature! And, it doesn’t require any embedding whatsoever (unless you want to of course) – you can simply click and share directly to your Facebook page. If you are planning on offering rewards on your campaign, a ‘free shout out on Facebook’ is a great way to make use of this feature.
Your visitors would see this interactive message on your Facebook page, together with any other additional message you want to add. It also happens to be a great way to post your link without it seeming like you are trying to make people donate. All you need to do is go to the embed option, as described above, click on the ‘donor appreciation’ option, locate the donor you wish to appreciate, click on the Facebook share option and share your message. You also have the option to save the image – this is perfect if you are planning to have a donor appreciation wall on your website.
How do I embed one of the widgets into my Facebook Wall?
To embed one of our widgets into your Facebook page, follow these steps:
- Login to your account on Facebook and visit this site facebook.com/appcenter/static_html_plus, and click ‘Use Now’ button.NB – This app is not endorsed or in any way managed by GoGetFunding. You may, of course, use any other freely available HTML iFrame app to embed a GoGetFunding widget within your Facebook page.
- Click ‘Add Static HTML to a Page’ to move onto the next screen.
- Select from the drop down which Facebook page you wish to add your app to and click ‘Add Page Tab’. Under your cover photo a Welcome tab with a star logo will appear, click on this to continue the setup.
- Click the ‘Edit Tab’
- On the next page you need to:
- Paste your GoGetFunding widget code under index.html
- Preview the tab and also ‘Save and Publish’
- Click ‘Done editing tab’
- Return to your Facebook page, the title of your widget will appear on the left hand panel under your profile picture.
How do I embed one of the widgets into my Website?
Widgets are very easy to embed into your website, and most websites will have html fields already in your appearance settings ready for you to simply enable, add the GoGetFunding code, and update. These will commonly appear in your sidebar or footer options, though it is entirely possible to embed these into pages or posts. For specific guidance, we recommend you revert to your respective website builder user guides.
What happens when my campaign ends?
When your campaign ends, your widget will continue to remain live and on your site for as long as your campaign exists. If you no longer have any need for the widget you can simply remove it from your social media page or website.
What if I don’t use social media or have a website?
Our widgets are not exclusive to campaign owners, which means ANYONE can install a widget on their social media pages or websites. In fact, whenever someone donates to your campaign, we suggest they do just that. The more people sharing your campaign, or showing their support, the greater the chances of your campaign attracting more donations! So, if you have family, friends or business colleagues who aren’t in the position to donate right now, they can still help you enormously by not only sharing your campaign, but embedding it into their social media pages and website so that everyone who visits their pages has the opportunity to read your story and donate.
If you are still exploring and navigating your GoGetFunding dashboard and want to learn about other features our site offers you as a fundraiser, get in touch with our customer support team and personal fundraising coaches. They will be delighted to review your campaign and discuss your marketing/promotional strategy.
And remember, with GoGetFunding you can raise money in all major currencies, with or without a time-limit and with many other customizations and privacy controls.
