Campaign Story
Our beloved Jennica has been in Maasai Kenya since August, working hard to bring the power of education to 124 underprivileged girls at the Kakenya Center for Excellence (KCE). She has made remarkable progress already - securing solar lights for the classrooms and dormitory, working with neighboring sugar factory owners to ensure the school’s access to clean water, and successfully managing operations during a three week nationwide teacher's strike. It's a testament to her determination and magnetic personality that so much has been accomplished in such little time.
But the fact is, the needs of KCE are great and resources are limited. Uniforms are tattered, textbooks are outdated and too few. Underwear, hygiene products, basic school supplies... all need replenishing. Without donor assistance, essential leadership projects and health education programs are in jeopardy.
The corps of teachers who are so vital to the girls’ development need your support too. In order to attract and retain the best educators, KCE must compete against regional schools with higher federal funding levels. Many of the teachers travel long distances and voluntarily live on-campus alongside the girls, sacrificing higher wages and greater benefits because they are committed to fulfill to the school's mission.
And the critical nature of the mission cannot be overstated. In addition to offering a top flight education in grades 4-7, the school promotes a nurturing environment that allows traditionally marginalized Maasai girls to flourish. Normally, these girls would be subjected to female genital mutilation (FGM) and sold into marriage at early adolescence. Treated as second-class members of society, low self-esteem and a loss of hope cripple their ability to pursue their dreams. Through health education, the girls, parents, staff, and community leaders have abolished female genital cutting to KCE students. Free to grow in a supportive community, these girls are breaking the bonds of their culturally assigned roles and becoming the women they choose to be.
You can make a difference. Your donation will aid in the continued development of the Kakenya Center for Excellence, ensuring a safe environment for these girls to become confident, educated women.
Below are some examples of just how far your contribution will go:
$25 - Provides one girl a complete uniform, including school and play outfits and shoes
$50 - A year's worth of textbooks for one girl
$125 - Enough to pay a teacher’s salary for one month
$200 - Buys five girls’ school supplies for an entire year
$400 - Pays one girl's tuition for a year
$720 - Enough to pay a teacher's salary for six months
$1,500 - Buys textbooks for 30 (yes, 30!) girls
$2,500 - Feeds 30 girls for three months
Your donation is tax-deductible and the entirety will go directly to KCE, which is a designated 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
So... what are you waiting for!!! Donate now!!!
