Popsis the dog was a victim of a hit and run incident today (2nd Sept 2021) in Peyia, Paphos (Cyprus) ,he was knocked down by a car and the driver drove off without stopping. Popsis was taken to a local vet by concerned locals where he was examined and he has broken his pelvis. He does not have a microchip and it appears the owner does not want anything to do with this matter and said it's easier to just have Popsis put to sleep. He is a healthy young dog, just under 2 years old. Despite the lesions on his face, this is not due to Leishmania as he has been tested at the vets and it was negative. He is some type of Labrador x hound weighing about 17kg and he's around knee height so not a large dog. We need to raise €1,000 to pay for Popsis' operation, he has a foster home lined up and then hopefully a new forever home will be found for him, where he will have an owner who will love him and take good care of him as he deserves.

Popsis made it through the weekend, he has been drinking and weeing and the vet said he has been wagging his tail so that's really encouraging. He is off his food but it's hardly surprising after what he has been through! Hopefully he will eat soon to regain strength to

Latest update from the vets

Update posted by Fiona Demaret at 07:39 am

I spoke to the vet yesterday, the cause of Popsis' abdomen swelling was found. It was actually urine leaking into his body :-( ... one of his ureters (the tube that carries urine from the kidney to the bladder) had been ruptured in the accident, which was not obvious at. . . . .

Update posted by Fiona Demaret at 06:08 am

The vets have just called me to say that overnight Popsis' tummy has swollen with fluid. So he will be back on the operating table today to investigate what is causing this. Really hope it is nothing very serious, poor lad.
