Morning all, I have paused the online campaign now as what with some very generous offline donations we have met and exceeded the target and are at a total of €1,290 raised - brilliant!
I spoke to the vet yesteday who told me that Popsis is still holding his own and has started to eat, albeit hand fed only but hopefully this will improve as he heals. He is drinking and peeing OK and his blood tests are good, an ultrasound has been carried out to check on the fluid / swelling situation and that appears to have dissipated and stopped.
I will organise the transfer of funds from here to the vets as soon as I can and will then update again.
Thank you to all Popsis supporters...generous benefactors and the wonderful vet clinic team, if only he knew how the kindness of people who are strangers to him have effectively, saved his life.
Popsis made it through the weekend, he has been drinking and weeing and the vet said he has been wagging his tail so that's really encouraging. He is off his food but it's hardly surprising after what he has been through! Hopefully he will eat soon to regain strength to recover.
I spoke to the vet yesterday, the cause of Popsis' abdomen swelling was found. It was actually urine leaking into his body :-( ... one of his ureters (the tube that carries urine from the kidney to the bladder) had been ruptured in the accident, which was not obvious at the time as there was no blood etc. The vet carried out emergency surgery to try to repair and reconstruct the tube. It was also found that Popsis had a bad kidney infection. Anyway, thanks to the effort and skill of the amazing vet team they managed to reconstruct his tube and start him on antibiotics straightaway for the infection.
So of course this extra operation which was very intricate and time consuming, comes at an extra cost. The vet clinic will very generously only require us to cover the basic cost of materials, so I have added another €200 onto the fundraising target. Donations have really dried up so I implore everyone to try to dig deep and help out, share this post around please. We have saved Popsis from being put to sleep in the first instance so we need to make sure he comes through this and is given a chance to thrive!
The vets have just called me to say that overnight Popsis' tummy has swollen with fluid. So he will be back on the operating table today to investigate what is causing this. Really hope it is nothing very serious, poor lad.
I've visited Popsis at the vets, he was in the recovery room feeling very sorry for himself! I left him some doggy treats on his blanket for when he feels a bit more like eating.
I spoke to the vet who explained what had happened. Popsis had a number of fractures to his Pelvis so the operation has been carried out to fix these, which is what the metal work is that you can see on the post-op X-Ray. So now he will remain in recovery while he gets over the operation and then he will go to a foster home.
Please keep sharing the fundraiser for Popsis as we still need more funds to pay for his operation!
