Campaign Story
The Global Refugee Leaders Forum has been documenting issues related to refugees in eastern DRC since 2020. We estimate that there are about 700,000 refugees in Eastern DRC, of which only 100,000 are known to the Congolese government and about 85% of them are women and children. Women and children are at the highest risk and we need to act now in order to save their lives. They are suffering from hunger, diseases, and many have no shelter. Many have also experienced rape, and survivors suffer horrible physical and mental health traumas. Women and girls that do not get the right treatment and stay in such precarious conditions often lose their lives.
Our aim is to help refugee women with access to medical treatment, shelter, and food.
We have set up regular meetings at our office in Goma where women can come together to connect, and to receive counseling and training for certain income generating activities. Our goal is continue increasing women’s access to both mental and physical health resources, to ensure basic needs are met by providing food and sheltering options, and to assist in training and creating income generating activities. Your donation will make a profound difference in the lives of refugee women in Eastern DRC.
About the Global Refugee Leaders Forum:

A Note from the Campaign Owner:
I want to acknowledge that the key factor in why I am hosting this campaign is that the opportunity to do so is not available to people who live outside a select number of “wealthy” countries. I admire and support the work of the Global Refugee Leaders Forum and it maddens me that, as a Canadian, as a white person, I am put in the position of financial intermediary for an organization that is acutely aware of what their community needs and is bold enough to ask for it.
