I am delighted to share with you that my friend found a job! She starts tomorrow, on a three month probation period. We are all very excited. The children are doing well, our "son" settled in his new school, and wonderful opportunities are happening for our "daughter" . We are beyond grateful! The family plans to move to their own place sometime next year, once there are certainty about the job prospects. So if you have anything extra, please think of us before getting rid of it! We will need to furnish their place and get EVERYTHING. They would also need to buy a little car - at the moment we are all sharing mine. Luckily my friend is a creative genius that can repurpose anything and make it look much better than new. I am extending our campaign to next year, when we will blow new life in it to make more dreams come true. Our journey has not been easy - lots of fights and learning about yourself, but also lots of love and sharing. We cannot change the past, but we can definitely change the future, and we will keep on moving towards the sun!
Our fundraiser has been a little quiet for a while, due to life happening. The good news is that we have started a small business called Funky Feniks. We can create and make almost anything. From funky kitchen curtains, costumes for parties or plays, recreate your favourite outfit that has seen better days, leather waste coats and belts, to incense holders and dog jackets. Please support us if you need anything, and go and look on our Facebook page for more information. And of course, please share our page far and wide! Or just look for Funky Feniks!
I have not written an update in a while. We are all still working on our journey towards a new beginning. We had our last visit to the dentist a week ago, which is a massive milestone for us. For the first time in years our "daughter" can chew properly and is pain free. Our "son" is making strides in his journey to catch up with school. He loves being "normal"! (Whatever that means!) He went for a sleep over with a school friend for the first time in his life, and that put him on such a high! having teenagers in the house obviously leads to constant fights about the internet, especially with one child schooling online, another doing GEDs and two adults working from home. We've reached a huge milestone where our new little family could afford to get their own internet. My friend is thriving, she still does not have a job, but being such a creative genius, she is starting to make beautiful things to sell. So if you need anything made out of leather, clothing for a special occasion (she is busy making a Princess Leia dress for a costume party) let us know! We will soon launch our online shop - I will keep you posted. She is moving into the her role as mother and taking charge of her life more and more everyday. This is a long journey, but I am so proud of how far we've came. We could not do this without your love and support on so many levels. Thank you for your love and support, and opening your hearts and wallets to us in such a difficult time. And keep watching this space. I believe with everything in me that this story will have a happy ending. And that each one of us who embarked on this journey will continue paying it forward. Day after day. One step at a time.
Thank you so much for everyone that supported us so far. We found a wonderful school which is a perfect fit for our "son". He has been going there for two weeks now, and is loving every moment. He even sit and do school work during load shedding with a headlamp on! I've never seen a young man so eager to do school work - he is in bed early each night and up and ready for school each morning. There is a lot of catching up to do, but he is really taking ownership and putting in the hours. He has made some friends and is a changed person, in such a very short time already. The people of Saintsburg are true angels and has come through for us on so many levels - the name is a true reflection of the staff members. We took a leap of faith and will see how the future unfolds, but we realise that there is a bigger plan and we must just keep on going. Our "daughter" has started her GED studies, and is getting more focussed every day. For the first time in a very, very long time her pain is clearing and she is like a sunflower turning her head to the sun. As with any healing, and in any family there are days where we all get rather snappy with each other. We are all working through some serious stuff... But I am happy to report after each speedbump we all get on better. Families fight, after all, and we can fight with each other, but boy, we also know how to stick together. My friend is facing her demons every day, and continues to work on our dream of a business and applying for any job that crosses her path. I believe at the right time all will work out. Please continue to share our story and to support us in any way you can. We still have a bit to go, but I do believe we will get there!
Today did not start very well, and I felt a bit down in the dumps. We had a turbulent week and everything that can go wrong did. Thee rollercoaster ride of this week made me feel a bit shaky! This changed in seconds when a very, very generous friend donated a very, very big amount of money to our campaign. I was lost for words, and sure that they made a mistake with the amount. They did not! I still struggle to belief that people can be so generous in these difficult times that we live in, and that towards complete strangers. I know generous comes in different shapes and sizes, and we appreciate every contribution, as it comes from the heart. Our second encounter was with an angel in human form who assisted us with so much more than just advice on schooling options. She gave us support and encouragement and allowed us to leave the past in the past, as it belong. This is so important in this journey, to look forward and not to dwell in the past. Like Brene Brown said: "If we own the story then we can write the ending."
Thank you for everyone's online and offline support, in various forms. People are giving so much more than money. The love, support and practical help and advice cannot be measured in monetary terms. Those of you based in South Africa that do not want to go via PayPal can contact me and we can arrange to do EFTs if it suits you better. Our "daughter" started with her GEDs and our "son" will be enrolled at a school on Thursday. They each have a few dentist appointments left, so we feel that thanks to your generous contributions we can already make things happen. The universe is conspiring to help this family on their road to a new life. The children are amazed by the goodness of people, having been disappointed by mankind so often in the pass.
Thanks to some wonderful people we have managed to raise some funds even before our campaign started. An old and trusted friend and his mother donated money offline, an angel optometrist assisted with getting glasses at a reasonable rate, an angel psychologist did some tests at a very low rate. Another friend donated her staff discount which allowed us to get proper shoes for the children. And my family - mother, father and sister has been over-generous with time, love and money. My wonderful friends from all over the world are supporting us with love, care, prayers and encouraging words, and sometimes professional advice. We are truly blessed. Thank you!
