Campaign Story
Dearest SanWild supporters and friends,
SanWild is a registered non-profit wildlife sanctuary and rehabilitation centre in South Africa that offers a safe home to rescued animals on a 6,200 Acre game reserve.
Founded in 2000 by the late Louise Joubert, the sanctuary is home to rescued elephants, lions, rhinos, cheetahs, pangolins and a host of other African wildlife species.
Uniquely, the sanctuary is held in trust for the animals, making them the only beneficiaries and owners of the land that they live on. Trustees volunteer their time and expertise to manage the organisation and raise the necessary funds for operational expenses like, for example, game ranger salaries.
SanWild also operates a small tented lodge on the sanctuary for visitors that generate a little income that assists with operational expenses.
Due to COVID restrictions on travelling, we have not had visitors to the sanctuary for over a year. This has placed us in a predicament, as we cannot rely on our lodge to help fund critical maintenance on our firebreaks and roads.
With the southern hemisphere winter approaching soon, we urgently need to prepare fire breaks around the reserve's perimeter fence. These measures are critical to prevent fires from spreading onto SanWild from neighboring properties that could place our animals in harm's way.
We also need to urgently repair the sanctuary road network that flooded and washed away during Cyclone Eloise. Roads are essential to respond to emergencies and to do counter-poaching patrols in the sanctuary.
Our most significant expense at this stage is to service our Grader, which we use to build firebreaks and repair the road network. The Grader requires new blades, a battery and complete service before we can start the work. The other requirement is diesel to operate the machine.
Our fundraising aim is to raise $2,000 (R30,000 South African Rands) to service the Grader, repair the roads and build the firebreaks.
Every dollar donated puts us one step closer to our goal and will make a difference on the ground. We will keep all our donors updated on the progress of the work through our social media channels.
Please like and share this campaign with your friends on your social media. We need all the help we can get!
Thank you for your support.
