Campaign Story
Summary
Help to train and empower 15 women on topics of Bio Generation Venture (BGV) in Malawi, by building their capacities and competencies. This will be achieved by conduction a two month period skills and entrepreneurship training which will equip them with relevant skills and knowledge and prepare them to stand-up against gender inequity, equity and elimination of all kinds of violence against women through full participation in social, economic and political spectra at all levels and bringing women into the main stream of development. Non formal education, as an intervention will create an increased awareness among women and girls. DRAOO is exploring and applying a durable and flexible approach and useful lessons for bringing change and sustainability to the lives of women and girls in the community.
Challenge
The public health crisis and social isolation have amplified the uncertainty, placing many women's livelihoods at risk. Due to the crisis we have observed that 80% of our female alumni network have either increased their vulnerability due to recent inequalities or relapsed due to risk factors within their environment. Many of these risk factors are directly related to gender based violence. This project provides a training platform for 15 women to educate and raise their voice against Bio Generation Venture (BGV)
Solution
The training is a community-level BGV prevention and educational program powered through Divine Relief Aid Outreach Organization (Training for Work Program) female alumni from Malawi. The project leverages the women's personal and professional experience while providing a space for them to promote bottom-up social changes in their communities. The people they influence are also encouraged to share their new knowledge with others.
Long-Term Impact
The project will train 15 women allowing them to further seek leadership representation in their communities, which will provide for a more equal female participation. The project will also educate a minimum of 850 people on gender based violence which will provide for better informed and healthier communities.
