I'm a Belgian former driving instructor, and I'd like funding (which will give you a return on your money) to build a multilingual (NL, FR, DE, EN) exam route practice app.

Let me explain:

In Belgium, there are 2 ways to obtain a driver's license:

1. via a driving school. In this case, you get a learner's permit which is valid for 18 months after you've take (at least) 20 hours of driving lessons and passed your theoretical exam. With this learner's permit, you can drive unsupervised; alone.
2. the "free system". You first pass your theory exam and then get a learner's permit which is valid for 36 months. With this learner's permit, you can only drive under supervision of an "experienced driver" (driving license for min. 8 years).

With your learner's permit -whichever of the two- you're supposed to gain experience. Before your learner's permit expires (after 18 resp. 36 months), you have to take your driving exam. If you don't, then you need to start the entire process over from scratch.

Naturally, a lot of people want to get to know the routes that driving examiners will take them on during their practical driving exam - specifically at which intersections, signs, situations, etc. they have to be extra careful (because they're known to be tricky, or because many regular drivers make mistakes there that will get you failed if you also make them, etc.). I have worked as a driving instructor in Brussels for ~10 years, so I know all these locations and routes like the back of my hand.

When I was a driving instructor, roughly 30% of students came to me, not for lessons, or to dot their i's and cross their t's, but specifically for "exam preparation lessons" - to get to know these exam locations and exam routes. (note that driving lessons cost ~€45-50 / hour in Brussels, and are always given per 2 hours, so even only one lesson for that would already cost them €90-100)

This app would make that much cheaper. After all: most student drivers actually have their own car, so this app is all they would need to learn the exam routes by themselves - and MUCH cheaper. The app would not just show them these locations, but actually guide them on routes, like a regular navigation app. Additionally, they'll get a prompt a bit before arriving at each location, so that they can pull over and look at the detailed description and pictures of the location, and instructions on how to behave or what to look out for.

Some additional information: Roughly 2 million driving exams are taken (not necessarily passed) each year in Belgium alone. About 25-30% go with a driving school (their instructor will mainly drive around in the exam area), while 70-75% go with the "free system" (normally, one or both of their parents are their "supervisor", and non-driving instructors don't know the exam routes and locations). This creates enormous potential for this app.
