Campaign Story
‘Wandile, the Warrior on Woes’ is a charming story about a young child and her friends who are navigating the reality of living with lupus. It is for children aged 5-12 years.
Lupus is a life-threatening, incurable, autoimmune disease that affects five million people worldwide. There is currently no literature for kids being diagnosed with and living with lupus in Africa although recent updates have shown that lupu is being increasingly recognized with children on this continent.
‘Wandile, the Warrior on Woes’ will form part of a ‘Lupie Kidz’ campaign run by Andrea’s Gift Foundation, a nonprofit organisation for lupus support. The package will include the book, a teddy called Khosi and a ‘Lupus Warrior’ medal.
We need to raise $1400, and will launch on World Young Rheumatic Diseases Day supporting under-resourced hospitals in South Africa.
This project is significant because children who are diagnosed with lupus often feel bewildered, afraid and hopeless. The purpose of ‘Wandile the Warrior on Woes’ is to educate through creative storytelling and empower the children with the message that a diagnosis does not define their destiny.

I will always support those who seek to give a voice to the voiceless, who help the helpless and who protect the most vulnerable in society, especially widows and orphans. This is a much needed yet tender initiative. Congratulations to author Danella Djan and Una van Rhyn for putting this together.
