About M4Jam Covid-19 Support Project:

M4Jam is a gig company who provides unemployed South Africans with gig work to earn money. With the current situation of Covid-19 and lockdown working is not possible. Without being able to work, how do people earn enough to feed themselves and their families, and how do businesses keep their doors open? We pivoted our technology (in a week) to help feed the rural communities and support the local shops, which are referred to as Spazas.

How it works: we are incentivising users on the M4Jam platform, who complete various digital tasks, including mobile training, with Food Vouchers.

Our Difference: Currently, similar projects are spending the bulk of their funding on distribution with less on food and essentials that make up these hampers. Having direct access to spaza shops, we work with the spaza owners to facilitate the packaging and distribution of the parcels. With zero transport and warehousing costs, all money raised goes towards the food hampers, helping those that are starving as well as supporting community business (spazas).

Why Your Funding is So Important:
With your help, we can support impoverished and desperate families within rural South Africa. To date, we have fed a total of 2,105 people.

On top of that, we'll be able to continue supporting local SMME’s or Spaza Shops within rural communities who are in much need of financial support and liquidity. They play an essential link in this project, connecting the families we support with the contents of the food parcels. To date, we have paid out a total of R369 300 to these spaza shops. Many of which would not still be around today if it weren’t for this initiative and the incredible donations we have received.
