food on the table.

My name is Steph Venter and I was looking for a way to help. After trying to cook food myself to distribute, I saw that the biggest challenge is to actually get the food to the people. So, I teamed up with a charity organization called One for 1, local soup kitchens as well as Woodstock Breweries, who swapped brewing beer with making soup for the crisis. My old 1993 VW Citi Golf got turned into a make-shift food truck with a trailer attached, which I now use to go from settlement to settlement distributing soup, loafs of bread, fruit and whatever there is to feed.

The government has promised help, but so far failed to deliver any much of that promise. The people living in the townships have been left behind, again. The help comes entirely from donations of local people and private companies. The community is strong. They teamed up to buy ingredients, cook food, and make sandwiches.

I partnered up with Russel, a friend, under the moniker “Food Maniacs”. Together, we will go into all the settlements and impoverished areas to bring the food to the people who actually need it.

Although, everyone is doing their best, there is sadly still not sufficient food. The situation is desperate, and help is desperately needed. There are people who haven’t eaten in weeks. They have nothing, yet they don’t lose their sense of dignity and are so thankful for every little bit of help they can get.

This is why we ask you for a donation. A little money can go a long way in Cape Town. It only coasts 100 ZAR (equivalent to 5 euros) to feed a person and sometimes more for an entire week if not longer. It will be used to buy food and gas to distribute it into the settlements. There is no big agency involved with operational cost and all the locals who produce the food and deliver it, do not take any money for it. Your funding will go straight to the people in need to put food in their stomachs and smiles on their faces.

We sincerely thank you for any Euros you can spare and promise we will do anything to put it to good use.

Stay healthy, stay safe!
