Expression of interest of why I want to be a pilot

My name is Mikias Wolede Gebere, a young man aged 19. I was born in Zimbabwe from refugee parents Mr And Mrs Gebere. I have done several courses, seminars in aviation and aviation medicine . I am currently working as an intern with a local aviation school and have had experience working at the country’s aviation airports both domestic, charter and international. Due to my passion I have been usually mistaken for a pilot by members of the public, this has made me wonder if one day I would be able to fly not as passenger but as a crew member in the cockpit

  1. All the time I meet with people who make remarks that almost dashed my dreams . Some call me captain which makes me feel I am near flying, yet so far I quickly gather myself together and purpose in my heart that one day my dream ought to become a reality . I assure myself that I would wait for an opportuity and I silently make a prayers that I would one day fly in the near future with resources permitting .

I am passionate about flying and as I grew up I always dreamt and imagined myself flying but never got the opportunity. Meaning i needed guidance and exposure on what was required of one to be a pilot , I always marvelled at how the crew carried themselves with confidence in the immaculate uniforms, etiquette, grooming and at the specialised responsibility they carried in their flying career .In 2016 my mother met with Mrs Moyo who happens to be our neigbhour . We had talked with her and we realised her job is working as a lecturer and career guidance consulting in aviation , And as my mother told me, she awoke the fire in me about flying .For me having the opportunity to learn how to fly and eventually being licenced will be a breaking new ground ,fulfilling my dreams, and it will also be a career breakthrough ,into something long dreamt off .

Since my early childhood learning up to high school , I have played a number of flying simulater games on my parents phones and laptops and at internet cafes . I have become and named changed to captain Mikias , but I believe this will not compare with me actually being in charge of the aircraft ,making decisions that guarantee the safety of the passengers on board and the millions of cargo I will be flying

My personal attributes are willingness to learn, adhering to landing procedures ,making sound judgements ,quick and prompt thinking, analysing situations and assessing risk factors these have perfected over the years and I believe will be of importance and transferable in my endeavour to become a pilot.

In my quest to become a pilot and actually succeeding to attain my career ,I will enter a profession which is highly respected , and this will enable me to be a role model to other aspiring young ones in my society given my background as a refugee . When I become a pilot I would give a chance , especially to the African children who may have the passion to take up the career , but with no means ,guidance or information about the flying career thus it will make me an ambassador of refugee grown young people and that being a refugee is not a limitation but a place of safety and advancement .

My success will be a ray of hope for majority of migrants whom I share the same dream with , because many believe it is a mission impossible as a refugee to become who you want to be due to geographical location and in poor loving condition

Traveling to different destinations has always excited me as well and by being a pilot , I would be able to travel across the world and see different places whilst being on duty . I am sure that nothing in this world can compare the exciting feeling of flying an Airbus or boeing if given the opportunity .

My apeal is to assist me with funding to undergo my long desired career in Zimbabwe or south Africa as I can’t go to Ethiopia for now due to my refugee status . Your assistance to my career will go along way in changing my life and my family’s living standards even back home , when time comes for them to go back home , in years to come . Beinmy parents first born all their life expectations are centred on my success.

Kind regards

Mikias Gebere
